BEHIND SHOE BIZ
The story of Gardenia Copenhagen began three generations ago in 1941, when the company's founder, Herman Gutkin, started producing clogs in a small basement in Nørrebro.
It was in the 1950s that Herman decided to change the direction of the company and began to focus on fashionable women's footwear. The stiletto came to play an important role in securing the company's position on the Danish market during the 1960s, when Gardenia Copenhagen was among the first players to introduce high heels and pointed toes in Denmark.
By focusing on consistency and staying true to its roots, Gardenia Copenhagen managed to establish itself as one of the most successful shoe brands on the market.
Since then, the family-owned company has remained true to its values and traditions within Danish design and is today characterized by its classic and exclusive profile. The stiletto is still a big part of the company's DNA, along with craftsmanship, high quality and great comfort, as well as a strong focus on the season's trends.
76 years later, Gardenia Copenhagen is still a key player in the Danish fashion industry. An important success factor has been the company's ability to remain curious and aware of its external environment.
The universe at Gardenia Copenhagen has developed a lot since the beginning and is today characterized by beautiful silhouettes, classic and angular designs, the highest quality in materials and function and, not least, a great sense of detail.
Gardenia Copenhagen not only adapts to trends - but is a trend-setting name that pushes the boundaries and inspires new trends.
Today, the vision and unconditional love for the product is carried on by Herman's grandson, Allan Gutkin, who is today the CEO and director of Gardenia Copenhagen.
